Even more country

Ok, this week I will try to post some nice dance music too, but it's so hard these days when we just want to sit outside and drink wine and listen to doobie brothers. So today we present to you relatively clean rivers, great band. Check out some info below.



Relatively clean rivers - easy ride

Relatively Clean Rivers - s/t (Pacific Is, 1976)

Recorded in 1975, this is a west coast psych tour de force that combines elements of vintage Grateful Dead with folk psych and BTL rural rock (in fact, an album like this very clearly illustrates the difference between rural rock and country rock, as it's very clearly Americana-influenced but really has no country reference points. That's one reason the term BTL is useful, it's an umbrella that encompasses both). Phil Pearlman is the singer and songwriter, and plays the lion's share of the instruments. In the '60s he had been behind the legendary psych freakout masters Beat of the Earth, but he started this project sometime in the early '70s. A very California record, this is full of lots of wide open spaces, jangly acoustic-guitar folk-rock tapestries, twangy, reverbed, Garcia-like electric leads, reedy vocal harmonies, and extended songs that achieve a stoned, dreamy feel. Go for the bootleg reissue, as you'll have to mortgage your home to buy an original copy of this self-release. I've read that only 500 copies were originally made and Pearlman "distributed" many of those just by discreetly depositing them around college campuses and record stores unannounced.

Kind of country

The last weeks have been kind of country. Or rather indie country perhaps. So we thought we'd put up two of those tracks that have been sounding most on the good old stereo system. Fleet foxes that you've probably all heard the ravings about, and yes, it's true, they are amazing, and Bon iver. Don't really know much about them except that they are very good. That's enought. Esbjörn Svensson R.I.P

Sadly swedens fines jazz piano player Esbjörn Svensson died at age 44 this weekend in a scubadiving accident. He will be missed by many. Damn it, the good die young

Bright black morning light

Got a big package of records over the weekend. Yeeesss... And one of the records I got was the 2006 release of Brightblack morning light full Album. And it's so f### great. Like a perfect mix between heroin rock and cinematic orchestra. I will be able to play every single track of this album out this summer. And believe me, I will. The album has been out of print for a while but should be back in stock again. Otherwise check their label: HERE

Automatic man

This album took me about two weeks to realize how good it was. Lots of late nights,,,but now i love it.

The drummer from automatic man, Michael Shrieve is best known as the drummer in an early line-up of Carlos Santana's band Santana and for his performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival when he was 20 years old (Turning 20 on July 6th). He was the youngest musician to perform at The Woodstock Festival. He left the original Santana Band to pursue solo projects. One little known but worthy effort was his drumming in the 1976 release of Automatic Man with guitarist Pat Thrall.

He also played in the band Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve (with Sammy Hagar, Neal Schon, and Kenny Aaronson).

He also played drums on former Supertramp member Roger Hodgson's first solo album In the Eye of the Storm.

From 1979 to 1984, he collaborated as a percussionist in Richard Wahnfried, a side project of Klaus Schulze (another drummer turned electronic composer) while recording with Schulze his own first "solo" album of electronic music, Transfer Station Blue in 1984.

He has also collaborated with David Beal, Andy Summers, Steve Roach, Stomu Yamash'ta, Jonas Hellborg, Buckethead, and others.

In 2001, he appeared on the Revolution Void album Increase the Dosage.

He currently lives in Seattle, Washington and plays in Fusion Jazz group at ToST in Fremont, Seattle with Danny Godinez, Joe Doria, John Fricke, and Farko Dosumov.

Parlour är Anders, Crinan och ett skivbolag. Tidigare har de arrangerat klubbar som Sloppy Seconds, Uppåt Uppåt, Station mm och berikar oss med musik på nätet via "Mind On The Run". Nu är de aktuella med sitt första edits släpp Parlour nr:1 där vi bjuds på "hypnotisk folk" och "fylledisco".

Parlour öppnar sinnen till höger och vänster och kastar nytt ljus över musik som du förmodligen inte visste fanns men som du utan tvekan behöver.

Förra veckan blev Parlour #1 "record of the week" på picadilly records. Och vi är så stolta. Det e fina grejer i vår värld. Dessutom vet vi ju vilken låt de har gjort editen på. Svenskt och otroligt smörigt....

The Swedes bring us another lovely piece of Balearica on this new 7" from Parlour No1. I have tried to ID the tracks, but no one has a clue what they are. However, judging by the speed this has flown out, you lot aren't that bothered to know. I would urge you to be quick, I think there are more on order, but it may be gone by Friday...

Another mysterious Swedish package turned up out of the blue! Remember the Cos / Mes 7"? Well, this is a similar thing, in style at least. Allegedly, these are two edits though I don't know either of 'em (cue emails). Side-A "Amor" is no doubt a humongous Balearic rock number, puts me in mind of Chris Rea, Simple Minds and A Mountain Of One. Side-B has "Capriccio" this time on an oddball disco tip, wonky funky bassline, Linn drums, spangly guitars in there too, it's got it all. Really cute little 7" and I doubt it'll be round for long.

It's monday, it's raining, and i can't be bothered to write more than this.

My mother hates the Monkees. She thinks they are super fake. And yes, I can understand her. She liked the kinks, beatles, stones and the who, and the monkees were just a 60's backstreet boys, or hannah montana who ever that is. Me on the other hand weren't alive in the 60's so I don't care as much. Anyhow. Their film "Head" is awesome, and today we give you the intro and theme song. I do love this part of the film. And the film Head is actually really nice. Directed by a young Jack nicolson, cameos by, frank zappa among others.

Time

I've wasted a lot of money and I've wasted a lot of time. This one is no waste of time. A Chamber brothers classic, that you can hear both in a fancy department store or at the coolest clubs.

Electric

Eddy grant seriously have some nice beats. Most of the time he fucks it up with melody and song. In this case I do think it works. Just some good old plastic reggae for the summer.

Last day of work

Here's a little thing on legendary swedish jazz sax player Lars Gullin. This is a live recordings in memory of his 80:th birthday that should be soon. The recordings are from swedish radio P2.

Four tops

Four tops was the first soul group i really got into. Found some records in my parents collection and that started my vinyl addiction, big time. I still think this is great stuff and sometimes i feel a bit sad that my soul records isn't played as much as they deserve. But I'm in a different world is the track that is going to be played at my funeral. No doubt about it.

I love this track. So cheesy but still good.The, I wanna suck your....ohhhhhhh kicks ass. And it works great on dance floors. On the 12" there's a different version on the flipside that is a bit more punk funkish with less song. Don't know whitch one i prefer.

Swedish Progg

Here are some tracks from swedish prog bands that were quite big here in sweden. Political, some of them, some not as much. But great music anyway. On top of that we put up a torrent for a swedish documentary on Progg. It's in swedish and from 2001 I think. Very good stuff. And even if you don't understad swedish there are plenty of music clips.
